The Hirondelle wreck is a shipwreck in Lake Leman in Switzerland. The shipwreck is that of a Swiss steamship that sank in 1864. The ship lies at a depth of 67 meters and so it’s required to be a technical diver to be able to dive this site.
The Hirondelle was launched in 1856 and in June, 1862 hits a rock near Becque-de-Peliz and gets stuck. After several attempts to get her back in the water and combined with a severe storm, these attempts were unsuccessful. By July, 1862 the Hirondelle had sunk.
The bow lies at 42 meters while the stern is at 67 meters. There is usually very little light and poor visibility at this wreck. There is current so even experienced technical divers have to be careful.
When diving the wreck, you can explore the different decks and rooms of the ship. The wreck is in pretty good condition, and is a great place to see some of the history of Lake Leman.
