Tanzania is a stunning country to explore above and below the water. Mafia Islands, Zanzibar and Pemba Islands are the most famous locations to scuba dive in Tanzania. Pemba is less developed and less touristy than Tanzania.
Diving in Tanzania has everything from macro to large pelagic life. It’s common to see sharks, dolphins and manta rays on a dive. The endangered dugong can also be spotted around Mafia Islands. Whale sharks can be spotted from April to October but are found November and December.

You can dive in Tanzania at any time of year. The conditions are calmest during March and October.

Tanzania’s best dive sites
Leven Bank, Pemba Channel
Not for the faint of heart, Leven Bank is a challenging drift dive with strong currents. As a result, large pelagic species can be found around the site including Tuna, Barracuda and Kingfish.
The Big Wall, Mnemba Island
Featuring a deep wall, covered in coral is a place to spot sharks, rays and tuna. Located just at the beginning of the Pemba Channel, this dive site is a hard one to forget.
Coral Garden, Mesali Island
One of the best dive sites in Eastern Africa, with stunning hard and soft coral. Turtles, eels and a variety of fish species can be found at this site. Underwater photographers especially love this site for the colourful photo opportunities. This site is best explored doing a drift dive.
