Belize has a lot to offer every level of diver. From coral reefs, to the Blue hole, and an abundance of marine life, Belize is scuba diver’s paradise. Rays, sharks and other interesting marine life are known to live in these waters. Excellent visibility combined with calm and warm conditions, make Belize a perfect spot for diving.
The coral in Belize is known to be colorful and healthy. Most dives are relatively shallow and accessible to novice divers. Belize is located on the Belize Barrier Reef, the second largest barrier reef in the world. Also, the Belize Barrier Reef is 186 km long and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Which means it’s home to beautiful coral reefs and over 500 species of fish. Whale sharks are known to be spotted between April and June.
When is the best time to go diving in Belize?
You can dive in Belize at any time of the year due to good visibility and warm waters. If you visit between March and May, you may have the opportunity to dive with whale sharks. Belize has a hurricane season from August to October so plan your trip accordingly. The rainy season runs from June until November when the sea conditions and the lowest visibility.

Belize’s best dive sites
Blue Hole
Belize’s most famous dive site is probably the only site that is not full of marine life. The Blue Hole is a giant sinkhole made famous by Jacque Cousteau. It’s 314 meters wide and 135 meters deep. The main attraction of this site is the difference in water colours from the deep dark blue waters to the lighter turquoise in the reefs around. The Blue Hole can be reached on a day trip or liveaboard.
Gladden Spit
A famous dive site to spot whale sharks during April to June. The whale sharks are calm and playful. They enjoy interacting with divers. A once in a lifetime dive. At the other points of year, the site features a beautiful reef and wall.
Hol Chan Marine Reserve
An abundance of marine life awaits. This shallow reef has beautiful coral formations which are home to a variety of fish species, eels and groupers. Just outside the reef, there is a coral wall to be explored. Eagle rays and nurse sharks can be spotted during this dive.

Belize is a tourist hotspot especially for American tourists with easy and direct access. It has beautiful rainforests to explore, hiking, Mayan temples, and pristine beaches. Caye Caulker is a popular island famous for its pristine sandy beaches, fresh seafood and laid back vibes.
Home to over 900 Mayan ruins, some still in great condition and very much worth exploring. Much of Belize is made up of jungle making it the perfect destination to go hiking. There are also a lot of mesmerizing caves to visit with interesting stories.
Nature lovers flock to Belize in vast numbers. There are over 500 species of bird making it a true bird watchers’ paradise. Also, from June to August, sea turtles are known to come to land to nest. If you wish to witness this amazing event, be sure to be respectful and keep your distance to not disturb the turtles.

The Philip Goldson International Airport has direct links with North and South America. There are direct flights from numerous major American cities. Once you arrive, domestic flights, buses or taxis are available.
If you plan to visit Caye Caulker, there are either domestic flights or head to the water taxi terminal in Belize City. Belize is also a popular cruise ship destination. Belize is also easily accessible via land from Mexico or Guatemala.
