Colombia’s Highlights
Colombia borders both the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific. Colombia has dozens of dive locations to choose from depending on experience level and what you want to see during a dive. The Pacific side has stronger currents and is reserved for more experienced divers. These strong currents bring interesting marine life. The Caribbean side offers calmer conditions and some beautiful reefs.
Malpelo Island is world-renowned for shark dives. From January to March, hammerhead sharks in large groups can be found. From May to September, silky sharks gather in the surrounding waters. Dives in Malpelo are reserved for experienced divers with a minimum number of dives.
When is the best time to go diving in Colombia?
You can go diving in Colombia at any time of year. The best months to dive are July to August and from December to March.

Providencia
Located on the third largest barrier reef system in the world stretching over 255 km2. The area around providencia is a UNESCO protected area. Stunning coral with a variety of animals to spot. 4 types of sharks can be spotted on over 40 dive sites in the area.
Malpelo
Located on the Colombian Pacific, Mapelo is difficult to get to but worth the trip. It’s one of the best places in the world to dive with sharks. Some divers report diving with up to 500 hammerheads.
Gorgona Island
Humpback whales use the area around Gorgona to breed. Located on the Pacific, these interesting dive sites are home to large pelagic species and turtles.
